How do I become a certified official?
To become an official, you must be 18 years of age, attend all required meetings where you will receive 18 hours of classroom and floor training. You must also pass the classification exam.
What is the difference between a certified official and non- certified official?
While a non-certified official may have some classroom instruction, a certified official has complete updated training and has liability insurance. Only certified officials qualify to work high school level games. Non-certified officials will not qualify to work high school games.
What skills do I need to become a successful official?
Patience, ability to stay calm under pressure, ability to work well with others, good verbal communication skills, ability to concentrate, willingness to learn, and above all integrity.
Why should I become an official?
Football officiating is a flexible part time job. It’s a chance to stay or get involved in the game of football and provides excellent cardio exercise. Most importantly, it provides an opportunity to work with young people within your community and a means to stay involved in the sport that you love.
Where should I go to get certified?
We recommend the LA unit and its long-standing tradition of training. Click “Join” and your name will be placed on our mailing list to get you started. You will then be kept abreast of important information.
How much are Full Membership Dues?
For Returning Members:
$100 Early Bird, April 1-June 15
$140 June 16-July 31
$170 August 1 and after
New members will continue to pay $90.
How much are Associate Membership dues?
Associate membership dues are $100.00.
When are membership fees due?
Membership fees are due now and will be accepted until August 3. A late fee will be assessed for payments received after July 31.
What is the last day for refunds?
The last day to receive a refund (less administrative cost) is July 30.
What is covered by dues?
Membership dues cover instructional materials, if any, and L.A. Unit operational costs.
How do we receive game assignments?
Once an official is certified, scheduling is done through use of the Arbiter software program.
What are some of the qualities the assigner looks for in an official?

What day/time are our game usually played?
Games are primarily played on Fridays for tackle football, throughout the week for flag football.
Where do I get my uniform?
You can Google referee uniforms where several websites will appear. However, for your convenience, we schedule vendor on site at one of the meetings at the beginning of the instructional program.
